My new adventure: turning fish scales into jewellery and accessories

Remember my quest for sustainable packaging ? And how I promised to keep you updated on how this little project of mine goes? Well, after some delay – some things in life you just can’t plan – I am proud to announce that I have taken the giant leap and become a webpreneur! I sell products online. But more than that, I have become a producer, making my own products, and for a person who’s been producing words and pdf reports, producing real products is quite a leap I can assure you! But here it is, my own FLINGA shop with jewellery and accessories made from fish scales from the Baltic Sea Whitefish.

The FLINGA logo

As you understand, seeing I write about them on Grazzhopprz, my products are sustainable: the basic material I use is waste, fish scales from fish caught for private consumption; I consider the environment in all actions, be that from choosing packaging and having a virtually paper-free office to carefully selecting the materials I work with (though this is a tricky bit and I haven’t managed to solve all hurdles yet!). The name, FLINGA, means “flake” in Swedish, because that’s what the fish scales look like: like small pearl flakes or icy snowflakes

Here’s a selection of the products:

The Line: multi-purpose jewellery: necklace (short or long), bracelet, anklet, waist jewellery…

Customized silhouette sparkling in a sunny window

Fish earrings

Tea light candle holder with hearts

Last week I went online, with my own website www.flinga.eu, I sell on Etsy, a market place for handmade products from all over the world (a place where you can easily spend hours clicking around and admiring all the nice stuff!) and I opened a yet-to-be-filled-with –content Facebook page. That’s the thing really, making products is far from the biggest part of a starting business, seeing I choose to sell online, it hasn’t really got me away from the computer, quite the opposite, but the combination of creativity and business is very exciting for sure!

I invite you all to find out more about the products and FLINGA and I promise to give an update once in a while on Grazzhopprz!

Thanks,

Tove Antonissen
