Earth Hour is about taking a stand against climate change. About showing we can all do something about it. And thanks to social media, what started in one city, Sidney Australia, five years ago, has grown into an event that mobilizes thousands of cities (last year: 5200) in more than a houndred countries (last year: 135). The initiator and organizer is a well-known conservation organization: the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
So what’s it all about? Well, Earth Hour means switching off your lights for one hour. On Saturday 31 March at 8.30 p.m.
A strong signal, a large event, a good reminder that we are responsible for our own actions and decisions, and that we’ve got to be careful with the natural resources we have. Will it have lasting effect? Only if we keep up the awareness in our daily actions the rest of the year. I we manage to think of more than our personal gain in our purchase decisions and other activities. At Grazzhopprz we see this awareness increase. The good initiatives in our community one by one represent people who’ve made a clear choice. An aware choice. And they’re growing in number, spreading like grasshoppers. So watch out: Earth Hour is a strong signal, reflected in the works of many throughout the year.
